One thing we’ve noticed through our extensive people-watching (come on, we you know you do it, too) is that the most magnetic individuals are often the ones glowing with comfort and confidence. It’s not necessarily what they’re wearing, but how happy they feel in their clothes!

Alas, we can’t always be ‘on trend’ and comfortable! Leather-look leggings or bodycon dresses, for example, might look incredible, but they’re rarely cozy. We’re more excited about an SS16 trend that takes things the other way. Enough of these tight, restrictive synthetics, bring on the free flowing romantic country chic of SS16!

The Romola Dress

Some of us, naming no names, had something of a Sunday morning ritual in our school days. Once upon a time, Sunday mornings were all about watching Little House on the Prairie and longing to be part of The Waltons clan (“Goodnight, Mary-Ellen, Goodnight Elizabeth, Goodnight Johnboy…” well you get the picture). It’s like all that viewing and dreaming was building up to this fashion moment.

Spring/Summer ‘16 is taking us back to those hazy days with a timeless look back with rustic, carefree, romantic ruffles and floaty cottons in Paisley prints, gingham and florals. They’re everywhere from Victoria Beckham and her ginghams through to the ruffles of Roberto Cavalli. Prairie chic is one of the biggest fashion stories of the season.

We really can’t pick what we love the most about this style: the fact that you can pretty much end up bang on trend by picking anything that goes well with denim – neutral floaty shirts tucked into denim, loose-fitting cotton under dungarees, paired with that retro denim skirt? Or maybe the ridiculously low-maintenance factor? Or the fact that it gives a natural edge to sexy. The style inspirations for this fashion trend spent 99% of their time outside on a farm for goodness sake!

We can’t wait for the summer months now; loose organic cotton and a warm breeze? We could be in a Parisian café or a country retreat.

The fact that this style goes with both boots (cowboy optional) and pumps, or can even be dressed up with heels, makes it not just flexible, but it also aligns perfectly with the British weather’s mood swings. Win!

For this natural countrified look wending its way from London Fashion Week to online retailers, think organic cotton, neutral colours, basic wispy Paisley and floral prints, billowy sleeves.

Anything that takes around 5 minutes to throw on before you head off in search of your next adventure teamed with a devil-may care plait in your hair and you can’t go far wrong. We can’t wait to dive smock-first into this trend with these ‘go with anything’ pieces.
