People Tree’s beautiful clothes are produced in the most responsible way possible using traditional technical skills but the vagaries of transport conspired against People Tree’s Autumn Winter 2014 collection. During shipping, a batch of our stylish organic cotton dresses got soiled and damaged – seemingly beyond repair.
As we follow Fair Trade principles in every aspect of the business we simply would not waste the great work of our farmers and artisans. Therefore we teamed up with ReWorKs UK and the University for the Creative Arts at Rochester to meet this challenge in the most creative and sustainable fashion.
ReWorKs UK re-uses, recycles, upcycles and re-purposes surplus textiles for the high street fashion trade. With a concept of zero waste, their team expertly repaired our dresses by hand to get them ready for the festive season! They were saved by a special technique, using surplus materials, which renders them truly unique: unique in sustaining their material integrity, unique in not wasting their quality, and unique in their new innovative designs.
