People Tree receives high commendation at the London Sustainable City Awards

Safia Minney MBE, People Tree CEO and Founder, received a high commendation at the City Sustainable Awards for the Sustainable Fashion retail category.

The proud pioneers were announced by eco-fashion icon and Green Carpet Challenge entrepreneur Livia Firth at the Lord Mayor’s residence, Mansion House, on 19th March 2013.

“I am very happy and proud! Every month I spend time with producer partners, but London is the place where I feel at home creatively and ethically.

It’s very important for our movement that the City of London recognizes People Tree 21 years work with Fair Trade groups and customers’ desire for great design and sustainable fashion.

At the moment People Tree promotes livelihoods for over 4000 organic farmers and artisans. I would love to share this amazing recognition with all the people that dedicate their lives to changing our world and to challenging the structures that exploit people who make our clothes and the environment.”

  1. I am so very proud of the caring work you’ve all done, both for the environment, the producers, their families, and for the consumer’s consciousness. I have been a supporter for the past few years and read about your work in the new book, “Sustainable Style.” This is a company that I would be proud to work for. One suggestion I have is write some about how to care for the clothes/repair them in an environmentally-conscious manner so they last as long as possible. Thank you again, and congratulations!!
