Earlier this week, on a cold February morning, the People Tree PR team ventured out to Somerset House to celebrate the launch of ‘From a Mother to Another’. The exciting new initiative by mother and baby brand Jojo Maman Bébé, and charities Hubbub and Barnardos, which aims to reduce the waste of baby clothes and help mums in need at the same time.
After a small breakfast, and with a warming cup of coffee in hand, we learned a little bit about the story behind ‘From a Mother to Another’; the average British family spends more than £11,000 on baby clothing (wow!) in their lifetime and more than a third of that ends up in landfill (that’s more than £3,500), losing all value even though it was still in great condition. Of course there are different reasons for that – most often it is just that mothers don’t know anybody to give their kids old clothes to or are too shy to do so.
Knowing from experience that good quality hand-me-downs are precious to every mum-to-be, the idea of ‘From a Mother to Another’ was born. It gives everyone the opportunity to be part of a change; up until Mother’s Day, which is on the 15th of March this year, you can hand in good quality baby clothes at Jojo Maman Bébé’ stores across the UK. They will then be gift-wrapped and given to families in Barnardo’s family centres. You can even write a little personal message to go with your gift! This way the life of the beautiful garments increases, and you get the chance to make a sustainable change through fashion – both things we at People Tree try to promote as much as possible. If you’re a mum why not help another mum this mothers day?
