Easter weekend is upon us, so we at People Tree HQ thought it apt to introduce you to a few of our favourite chocolate companies, who share our passion for Fairtrade and Organic produce. Some of these brands are lucky enough to possess both marks,  just as we do!

Our first pick is a company we are sure many of our supporters have heard of – Divine Chocolate. Divine was born in 1998 and is the only Fairtrade chocolate company which is partially owned by cocoa farmers. The farmers, who are part of the co-operative named Kuapa Kokoo, which is located in Ghana, own 45% of the business. This gives them a share of Divine’s profits and a stronger voice in the cocoa industry, taking this company’s ethical practices one step further – what an amazing business model!

Second is a smaller brand located in Norfolk, which goes by the name Booja-Booja. Their products are made using Organic certified ingredients, sourced from 22 different suppliers, in 12 countries world wide. Their specialities are luxurious truffles and an ice-cream alternative, which is dairy-free. And it’s not the only treat which is suitable for those with special dietary requirements; all of their products are dairy, gluten and soya free, so can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone – yay!

Up next we’ve chosen Green and Black’s, one of the pioneering Fairtrade and Organic chocolate companies. The company’s name symbolises their strict Organic principles – Green – and represents the intensity of their chocolate – Black. Their debut chocolate bar, named Maya Gold, was released in 1994, and was the first chocolate product in the UK to be awarded the Fairtrade Mark. The company now boasts a diverse range of products, from flavoured chocolate bars, to drinking chocolate, to ice cream – delicious!

Last on the list is a great new find; an exciting independent brand going by the name of Cocoa Loco. Based in West Sussex, this company produces Fairtrade and Organic artisanal chocolates, which are lovingly handmade in small batches by skilled chocolatiers. Their range of chocolate bars encompasses some amazing flavours, such as Sesame Seed & Honey Milk Chocolate and Rose & Geranium White Chocolate. The selection also extends to include exquisite truffles, giant chocolate buttons and even baked goods – what more could we ask for?
