For well over a thousand years we’ve wetted our beaks and this weekend…Why break tradition?
This Bank holiday weekend will see a lot of us participating in what could easily be the nations favourite pastime. Here at People Tree HQ the mere mention of a cocktail is enough to see ears prick up and eyes brighten, so we felt it was only fair to share with you some of our favourite Fair Trade cocktail recipes.
Jo’s All Natural Pimms:
-Chop your organic Fruit into bite sized chunks, removing any seeds along the way.
-Add 1pt Pimms and a dash of Fair Trade Gin into a pitcher, then 2pts lemonade and 1pt Ginger Beer (to give it a little extra kick)
-Peel the leaves off your sprigs of mint and place them in the palm of your hand, clap down hard to unleash even more flavour (and add that beautiful aroma to your aperitif)
-Add all your fruit and herbs to the pitcher and give it a stir before leaving it to chill for 20 minutes.
Et Voilà! You’ve made yourself a delicious pitcher of Pimms, enjoy over ice or chilled.
Beth’s Long Island Iced Tea
-Fair Trade Rum
-Fair Trade Vodka
-Fair Trade Gin
-Fair Trade Tequila
-First things first you’ll want to make your organic sour mix! You can purchase this from a supermarket although these can be a little too sour. Add a cup of sugar to a cup of boiling water and stir until its dissolved. Then simply squeeze fresh lemon juice over a sieve to avoid pulp or seeds contaminating the syrup, shake and refrigerate. Easy!
-Now that your sour mix is cooling you can start mixing your spirits. Add 15cl of Rum; Vodka; Gin; Tequila (Fair Trade of course!) and Triple Sec to a Boston Shaker and proceed to add your sour mix. Shake with ice, then pour slowly into a tall glass before finally adding a splash of cola.
You can Garnish with a sprig of mint, a lemon wheel. Or alternatively you can peel the skin from a lemon diagonally, carefully removing the pith to form a spiral of organic zest.
Amelia’s Zesty Daquiri
-Fair Trade Rum (white)
-Fair Trade White Sugar
-First you’ll want to make some Fair Trade Gomme syrup. Simply add your sugar to boiling water and stir, the more sugar you add the sweeter it will be. Easy!
-Pour 45cl of your light (Fair Trade) rum into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
-Add 5cl of gomme sugar syrup
-Squeeze the juice of 4/5 limes and vigorously shake
-Strain over a chilled martini glass
Cut a slit into a lime wheel and place on the rim of the glass
