People Tree are huge advocates for Fair Trade, so we’re delighted to be celebrating World Fair Trade Day once again. The theme for this Saturday is ‘Be an Agent for Change’ so we thought, what better way to celebrate than by celebrating our own agents of change! Each day this week, we’ll be looking at different stockists that we work with, all of who advocate and work towards a more ethical, more sustainable, and more Fair Trade world.
For our first profile, we’re sticking close to home and staying in London with the 69b Boutique!
69b Boutique is, unsurprisingly, at number 69b on London’s Broadway Market and was set up by Australian-born owner Merryn Leslie a few years ago. Before setting up shop, Merryn worked at i-D where, after climbing the ladder and working for big names in fashion, she became disillusioned by the lack of understanding about how our clothes are made. They now solely stock brands that are working ethically and sustainably. Interestingly, when it was first opened they consciously didn’t advertise that they are an eco-boutique, but will passionately talk to their customers about ethical fashion as and when their customers ask. This always provokes a positive response.
If you’re in Broadway Market, here are Merryn’s top recommendations!
- We prefer Matcha over coffee so head to TIOSK for fine teas and holistic lattes. Plus can indulge in healthy whole food salads and vegan wheat free cakes! Bliss.
- Check out POCO for locally sourced sharing plates with a British, Mediterranean & Middle Eastern influence. Biodynamic wines to match.
- Must visit: Broadway Market’s Saturday Market. Bustling market with great street food, buskers, antiques, vintage clothing and vinyl, organic veg and cool crafts.
69b Boutique is open 10:30 – 18:00 Tuesday to Friday, 10:30 – 18:00 Saturday, and 11:00 – 18:00 Sunday.
